For the first time, Red Bull Music Festival is coming to London. Taking place from 20 August to 14 September, the festival will stage a diverse programme of events across the capital’s clubs and open-air spaces.
The culmination of the four weeks of events is set to be a custom-built club show from Aphex Twin at Printworks. Support will come from Afrodeutsche, Caterina Barbieri and Ugandan drum troupe Nihiloxica, with visuals to be helmed by Aphex Twin collaborator Weirdcore.
For its London edition, the festival will place the capital’s influential and multifaceted bass scene at the forefront of proceedings. Blawan, Saoirse, Bruce, Special Request, Sherelle, L U C Y and Danielle will take over Fabric for Refractions, a showcase of the divergent strands of UK bass music.
Dues will be paid to the sounds of UK garage, with a Sunday session to feature icons of the UKG scene, including So Solid Crew, Ms Dynamite and Todd Edwards. At the British Library, Kieran Yates will head up Coded Language, a discussion themed around the evolving language of London’s multicultural scenes, soundtracked by Kenny Allstar.
The programme will also include a collaboration between object blue, Natalia Podgorska and LOFT. There, the trio will head up a 360-degree A/V live performance. Elsewhere, drag artist Victoria Sin and DJ/producer Shy One is set to explore drag, queer expression and club culture in the performance We know that we can shape ourselves. Audience members keen to participate in the collaborative process will be able to as part of Red Bull Music event series Round Robin, where Lapalux, Swindle Mira Calix, Nik Colk Void and Ezra Collective’s Femi Koleoso and more have been confirmed for improvised duets.
Tickets go on sale this Thursday (20 June) at 9am (BST). For full details head to Red Bull’s site.
