Amplify + PlayStation create an arena fit for esport champions...
Amplify were challenged to support PlayStation’s first global esports tournament series, building and managing a 400-person esports arena on the show floor of Paris Games Week.
Esports has a global audience of 380m and has become a firm fixture in gaming culture. PlayStation supports the largest community of console players and has a vital role in the future of competitive gaming.
We wanted to design a stand-out arena for maximum visibility on the show floor and for those viewing online. Something that would engage esports enthusiasts and casual viewers alike, highlighting PlayStation as a major esports supporter.
Amplify worked with the ESL to deliver a 2000sqm2 esports arena on the show floor that was open all day, every day. Supported by world-class lighting design and a 4-sided 4K screen, the stage design brought the fans closer to the athletes and surrounded them in the action.
Starting full throttle, the arena hosted the Continental Cup, a global professional FIFA 19 tournament featuring the top 32 players from around the world. The final event saw the USA’s Joksan beat Germany’s TheStrxnger 10-8 on aggregate, taking away the grand prize of €20,000. But the show didn’t stop there. Across the final two days, the arena presented several esports showcases for high-impact titles such as NBA 2K19 and Destiny 2: Forsaken.
