Amplify + Sonos show the importance of sound in film…

Challenge

Amplify were challenged to help launch PLAYBASE, positioning Sonos as the leader in the growing home cinema category.

Insight + Strategy

With 98% of all video content now being viewed at home the quality and convenience is fast becoming just as important as music, with the audience wanting to listen to film better.

Amplify were on a mission to make Sonos as famous for enhancing the sound experience in film as in music, demonstrating the importance of sound as an integral part of the viewing experience.

Solution

ReScored

Amplify launched a nationwide competition to find one lucky filmmaker to have their film rescored by two music legends - Steven Price, the academy award-winning composer famous his ground-breaking score in the feature film length film Gravity and Abbey Road’s Grammy award winning producer Giles Martin, son of Beatles collaborator George Martin.

A selection of experts completed our cast of judges including renowned cultural journalist and author Miranda Sawyer, and director Simon Cellan Jones.

Collaborative media partners including The Guardian, NOWNESS and No Film School followed every step of the competition, helping us reach an even wider audience of both filmmakers and entertainment enthusiasts.

Luke Flanagan’s visually stunning film “Mind The Gap” was unanimously selected as the winner. And to show the importance of sound in film we delved behind the scenes to document Luke’s voyage upon the epic rescore of this soundtrack live at Abbey Road studio1.

Steven Price and a 58-piece orchestra premiered the film to a 200 strong audience of industry, media and competition winners. All enjoyed an awe-inspiring, surround sound rendition of the film with a live new soundtrack, a Q&A and finishing off with a live selection of Steven Price’s key work spanning TV and film.
